Mangosteen
Mangosteen is a delicious fruit that grows
throughout southeast Asia. Nowadays, mangosteen is also
cultivated commercially in countries outside southeast Asia in
Central America and Australia. However, in the United States
and many other countries, most people have not heard of
mangosteen fruit.

The mangosteen belongs to a
family called Guttiferae which is in
the same family as the San Domingo apricot, aka
Mammea america.
It is scientifically
referred to as Garcinia mangostana.

There are many uses of mangosteen. The
mangosteen fruit is delicious. The rind of a mangosteen
contains many medicinal properties. Since the smell of a fresh
mangosteen is refreshing, mangosteen is used in cosmetics and
skin care products, added to the fact that mangosteen contains
many highly powerful antioxidants making the skin look younger,
healthier and more natural.

In countries where mangosteen trees grow,
mangosteen fruit is not expensive. But if mangosteen fruit is
imported, they are often much more expensive. In the US, you
cannot find fresh mangosteen fruit usually. A 32 fl. oz. bottle
of mangosteen juice can cost anything from $30 to $50.
